INTRODUCTION
The company is interested in exploring the new food space because this market is growing and would grow the company’s portfolio.
The innovation team is task to look into that space and what opportunities does Nestle Purina have in that space.
CHALLENGE
Nestle Purina is known for it’s mass-manufactured pet food, the new food space would be a huge stretch for the company. What would be a value proposition that would make sense for potential customer?
Solution
I led a our design team to understand customers who are currently purchased the new product, learn about the competitive landscape, and put together a value proposition that would differentiate us from our competitors selling this product online.
IMPLEMENTATION
Together with our innovation marketing partner, nutritionist, and chef, we created a test and learn plan to test our value proposition and potential new product line.
In our test and learn, we created a small scale product line with multiple flavors, packaged with marketing materials and set up a booth at a farmer’s market to sell our products.
The product line was sold in farmer’s market consequently for 3 weeks.

RESULTS
Based on the test and learn, we were able to learn that this product line is desirable by customers and the challenge would be manufacturing the product that is not part of current portfolio.
This resulted in multiple meetings with our food production team to ideate on ways to create our MVP product line.
Conclusion
The research and test and learn was done in-house, with support from a marketing campaign vendor.
It created a low risk and cost effective way for the company to gather data on customer’s desirability and business viability, before finding ways to scale the product line.
